Te Whakaoranga o Te Puhinui: Te Rautaki, Te Puhinui Regeneration Strategy is a regeneration programme in the heart of Taamaki ki te tonga (south Auckland), focused on the ancestral stream of Te Puhinui. Te Puhinui stream spans from the peak of Tootara park through the residential area of Te Wirihana, into the commercial area of Manukau and out to the Manukau Harbour (Te Manukanuka o Hoturoa). The intent is to focus on intergenerational outcomes for tangata, whenua and taiao (people, place and nature).

The strategy aims to align and build on existing relationships and projects within the catchment and the Manukau Harbour by providing frameworks and methods that will help shift Te Puhinui from its current state towards realising its potential.

The ultimate goal of this project is to improve the health of the water, the land and the people of Manukau, so the strategy incorporates ecological considerations including stream restoration, wetlands, ponds and stormwater treatment devices, and flood management. Broader benefits will include increased community connection through walk and cycleways connecting the Botanic Gardens, MIT, the War Memorial Park, Netball Manurewa, Wiri Stream and Puhinui Reserve.
