Te Aka Raataa Project Announcement.
13.07.2023
Congratulations to our client, Eke Panuku Development Auckland on the successful purchase of 7.6 hectares of land in Manurewa which will enable Te Aka Raataa – an awa (stream) and repo (wetland) regeneration kaupapa. This is no small feat! In fact, it’s been called the largest investment in South Auckland public space in nearly a decade!
Te Aka Raataa is embedded in Te Whakaoranga o te Puhinui, a multigenerational strategy to regenerate Te Puhinui catchment.
We’re so excited to provide Integrated Design Management services to this kaupapa, and work alongside Te Waiohua Iwi, Eke Panuku Development Auckland, Auckland Council – Healthy Waters, Boffa Miskell Limited, Resilio Studio, WSP, Uru Whakaaro, Empowered Communities and many, many others.
Te Ākitai Waiohua chair Karen Wilson has welcomed the purchase of the wetland by Eke Panuku, acknowledging its importance to the ancestral awa and as an integral part of the Puhinui river catchment.
“This is such an important next step towards the vision Te Waiohua has for restoring this space. Returning this land to its natural state of a healthy wetland and ngahere will help realise the intent of Te Whakaoranga o te Puhinui to return ora to the people and places of Te Puhinui. We look forward to working with the project partners and local communities to embed Waiohua maatauranga in the design of this future park and awa regeneration,” she said.
