Done. Kaihautū (Director) Sam McGavock is currently co-facilitating this year's Living Future Institute of Australia's Regional Intensive Course, alongside the incredible Co-Course Facilitators Laura Hamilton-O'Hara, CEO at Living Future Institute of Australia and Architecture for Change Co-Founder Stephen Choi.
We thought this would be a great opportunity to re-visit some of the #LivingBuildingChallenge projects which Done. has contributed to, but first, what is the Living Building Challenge?
The Living Building Challenge (LBC) certification process is the world’s most stringent proven performance standard for buildings and comprises seven performance areas: site, water, energy, health, materials, equity and beauty. It requires significant effort from the client and project team to design, build and occupy a building which is net zero energy, water and carbon and which excludes toxic materials.
Launched in the USA in 2006, the LBC considers the question ‘what if every single act of design and construction made the world a better place?’ and despite the stringent standards required to achieve this certification, since its launch, there have been over 100 fully certified buildings and 500 registered projects created around the world.
The first fully certified Living Building outside the US is here in Aotearoa! It is Te Kura Whare in Tāneatua for Ngāi Tūhoe.
